Injection lipolysis is a safe, non-invasive procedure used to reduce unwanted body fat build-up, in areas where healthy lifestyle changes have not been effective for reducing fatty tissue.
Injection lipolysis can be used to target many problem areas in males, such as a double chin, man boobs, soft abdomen or love handles. Injection lipolysis is not used for general weight loss; it is used to treat specific pockets of fat that cannot be removed from diet or exercise.
The process uses a combination of mild, fat-dissolving medication micro-injected directly into the unwanted fat layer under the skin. These fat cells, over a period of weeks, dissolve and exit the body.
As the chemicals dissolve the fat, it is flushed from the patient’s system through urination. There is mild post-treatment swelling, possible mild bruising but no need to wear any uncomfortable undergarments. Generally, patients do not experience any pain or discomfort following the treatment, and this treatment is typically regarded as low in side-effects. Dr Hugo Pin will discuss with you what you should and shouldn’t do following the treatment.
How does injection lipolysis work?
The active substance used for the injection lipolysis procedure, Phosphatidylcholine (PPC), is a lecithin extract taken from the soybean. This extraordinary nutrient is responsible for the structural and mechanical element of every biological membrane. Emulsifying fat, lowering cholesterol, and activating the immune system response are just a few life-sustaining properties of PPC. PPC is also the communicator molecule that regulates and controls what physically enters and exits each cell via its membrane.
Today, the PPC extracted from the soybean is in such high purity that it contains no proteins and therefore triggers no allergic responses.
PPC injected into fat deposits has a detergent-like effect, causing fat cells to rupture and dissolve. Fat released by the cell is metabolized by the liver and excreted by the body. There is also tightening of the skin in treatment areas, which may be more than would be achieved by liposuction of the fat deposit.
Depending on the body area treated, one to four treatment sessions is necessary. The majority of patients (89%) need either one (17%) or two (72%) injection sessions to achieve the desired results. Treatment sessions are taken 8 weeks apart. Results are typically seen 4 – 6 weeks after treatment.
Is injection lipolysis a long-term solution?
According to research, fat cells that have been dissolved through injection lipolysis generally do not return. Provided that the patient maintains a similar weight, fat cells should not return any results from the treatment should be permanent.
Cost of treatment
Cost of treatment depends on the area treated. Small areas like under chin or bra roll cost $350, the larger area like abdomen or flanks can cost from $550 to $750 per session.
